CDP Director, Patrick Regan, served as a consultant to the African Union Program on Conflict Management, which is setting up an early warning system for conflict on the African Continent. 

Democracy Consultations in Africa, July, September & October, 2000

In his capacity as Director of CDP, Edward McMahon travelled to Botswana, Chad, and Rwanda on the Department of State's American Speaker program.

Country Reports for Freedom House, 2000

CDP Director, Edward McMahon served as consultant to Freedom House 's Annual Survey of Political Rights and Civil Liberties, preparing country rankings and analyses for 15 African nations. In December 2000, he participated in a press conference hosted by Freedom House at the National Press Club. The purpose of the event was to highlight the findings of Freedom House's Annual Survey of Political Rights and Civil Liberties. McMahon spoke on related trends on the African continent.

Conference on the Presidential Transition on Africa

McMahon presented a paper entitled “Assessing Democratic Development in Africa at a conference for the presidential transition on Africa in Washington, D.C. in December 2000. The conference was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the National Intelligence Council.

Evaluation of Legislative Strengthening Programs, 2000

Contracted through the State University of New York International Development Group, Edward McMahon conducted an evaluation of Legislative Strengthening Programs funded by the United States Agency for International Development ( USAID ). Components included an overview of funding trends, a regionally based evaluation, and an experiential database.
